I am a retired Combat and Disabled Army Military Police Veteran. I served my Country for 17 years before I had to make the decision to medically retire. I made that decision as a Major just before my promotion board to Lieutenant Colonel, solely on the basis of my Mental Health. I had been dealing with physical injuries my entire career with 19 surgeries in 17 years of service. My experience with PTSD, Mental Disorders, and TBI coupled with my long standing need for opioid(s), has made me quite literally a poster board case for the NEED of pain-killers. I am appalled when I see commercials from Marketing Companies or Non-Profit Organizations, who have no idea what it is like for men and women like me. Warriors! Served our Country! Wounded in Combat! Traumatized! Yet these people make us out to be addicts. They make our health care providers nervous or anxious to prescribe us the medications we NEED because of those weak individual’s who abuse them. DO NOT PUT US IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS THOSE ADDICTS! I walked into this life knowing this could be my outcome and I am just fine with that. But treat us, those who take pain-killers to lead a life managing pain, on schedule, without any history of abuse with respect!
