About TICN

Trauma Informed Care Network (TICN) started as a grass-roots organization in 2013 with volunteers, professionals, and community members who shared common goals of focusing on issues surrounding trauma awareness and trauma informed care.  TICN formally incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2017 and received 501c3 status in 2018. Currently we are working on projects related to community advocacy and legislations, community outreach networking and education, effective trauma prevention and treatment practices, trauma informed care training, trauma informed care research, and facilitating additional TICN chapters.

Originally, TICN’s founding volunteers consisted of behavioral health professionals and helping agency workers who had recognized through our training and experiences the significant impact of emotional trauma on the physical health, emotional, and behavioral well being of our clients and patients.  The founders recognized in working with these traumatically impacted people that when we focus on seeing symptoms through a trauma lense and apply evidence-based trauma resolution techniques, we are able to help to alleviate many of the associated mental, physical, and behavioral symptoms. With this approach clients and patients tend to see improvements in many areas of their life: physical health, emotional functioning, relationships, recreation, general life adjustment, spirituality, etc. Additionally, we see a decreased need for long-term medical treatment, psychotropic medications, or dependency on maladaptive coping behaviors.  This perspective is validated through evidence from Adverse Childhood Experiences research which recognizes the significant impact of early trauma on a variety of long term outcomes.

In observing the significant positive changes in our clients and patients as we take this focus, we have been motivated to share this information widely throughout our community. Our focus includes increasing collaboration with mental health and medical colleagues in the community to work together in treating these issues. We are also working to increase outreach and education to a variety of agencies and organizations as well as the general public, to help increase awareness and access to effective treatment. We feel this will help with improving resilience, trauma prevention, alleviating current symptoms, and mitigating secondary trauma effects in our community.

We invite interested individuals, professionals, and  organizations seeking to network around these issues to support and join us in these efforts.
